TextileFuture presents to you the latest facts and figures on fake goods that were seized at the EU borders. It should be underlined that clothing is no longer playing the major role, however it is still of concern, as well as footwear and accessories. The value of all seized goods is considerable. Patent infringements are no gentlemen actions, but a crime, and its damage has to be covered by the right holder and the tax payer. But for myself, I cannot remember that fake goods in textile sectors have not been existing, however, nowadays the copy and fake business is a lot easier than it was, let’s say only 20 years ago. However such criminal action is also discriminatory and should finally be put to an end. Also, this could be made easier, since the necessary electronic tools are available to stop these fraudulent doings, but first of all, the mentality – particularly in Asian countries - has to change and being educated, but unfortunately this is a longer process. It would help that those who produce fake goods will lbe stripped of their financial benefits, and do receive additional penalties, as well as in the form of prison! Today’s feature is entitled “EU customs seized over 41 million fake goods at EU borders in 2016”
